As we all know, Adrian College currently does not have a swim team. They used to, and it looks like they may have one in the future. This article describes how the college has been using sports to boost enrollment. Right now, the college has 23 NCAA varsity sports, and there are plans for even more. They are saying they will build a new pool and add swimming, diving, and water polo teams. I wonder if it will actually happen.

This new plan of theirs is a unique way to boost enrollment, as I haven’t heard of other d3 schools doing this, and so far it seems like it’s working. This is an interesting quote:

“All coaches are responsible for recruiting one-third of their roster each year.

‘We don’t care if you win the national championship. If you don’t bring in the new kids each year, you’re fired,’ Docking said.”

I think a follow-up question would be, “if they do re-start their swimming and diving programs, will we see a repeat of Olivet?” That is to say, going from 3 swimmers/divers to winning MIAAs in a matter of 5 or so years. Not sure, but it could make the league more competitive and a lot faster, which we seem to agree is a good thing…

If Adrian adds swimming and diving, would the MIAA switch to top 16 from top 12 to consols and finals?

      Hope not…
