MemberLooking at the top times I am wondering what people will be pulling out of which events. I think you can only enter three events. Here are a few examples:
Kenton Drake is ranked in 400im, 100 breast, 200 free all on day 2. Obviously won’t swim 200 free for sure.
Tim Newton, does he swim 400 im instead of 200 again?
Matt Stewart, swims 200 instead of 100 fly.
Brad Test did 5 relays last year, does he do 100 fly this year?
Chase Gross is strong in the 100 fly and 200 free
As said before, Zimarev looks to be gone in 100 fly.
From what I have seen it looks like 100 fly and 200 free have the most flex room, good old Day 2. If three people forgo an event that significantly changes the position of those on the bubble. Anybody else notice events that have a few potential scratchers?

MemberI would doubt highly that Newton swims the 200 free over the 400 IM. I also doubt Test swims the 100 fly. I would think he would go all 5 relays again. Gross is a good question though. He had a great 200 free at nats last year, but he also went 50.4 in the 100 fly in December. I am not sure what he will do

Memberi hear that Newton is dropping the mile and is focusing on the 200 free/ 4IM double…
terrible move by him if it’s true

MemberFor a guy that is flat dominant in the 500, his mile is not quite as impressive. At the same time the 4 IM 2 free double with the 8oo fr on the same day is ridiculous. ANyone know if this is really true

Or he just want to to prove he has balls of steal that drag on the ground when he walks.

Membergranted. i have seen newton do some amazing things, so i guess it would only be a terrible move if he messes up. if it goes well, which he def has a good chance it’ll be straight dominance!
*steel btw

MemberI’ve heard the same rumor that Newton will be doing the 2free 4IM double. He was 1:40.9 for a relay split at UAA’s and only a 1:40.6 at NCAA’s last year in the 8free relay… and he was completely unrested at UAA’s. There could be some damage done there.
Plus he was 3:58 in the 4IM at NCAA’s.
If he pulls it off, which judging from his reputation will not be a problem, god help us all.

MemberThat is a pretty rediculous double. There was a guy in the MIAA this year that did that and dropped every time he dove into the water. His 800 Free Relay split was better than either of his two open 200s that day. More power to Newton if its true.

MemberThe only issue he will have is he really only has the 100 fly between the 4 Im and 2 free. He is looking at what maybe 15-20 minutes between his 400 IM prelim and 200 free prelim. I am sure he is shooting to make the top 8 in both, and that could be a bit of a tall order I would think.

MemberI think he will win the 500, but I do not think he wins either the IM or the 200 free. He has a much better shot to win the IM then the 200, but I am not sure if he can run down Peterson in the IM

MemberThere also appears to be a swimmer from Williams (going by the roster) – who is in the top 20 in both the 200 fly and the 1650 – his 200 fly time is much better so I assume he is going with that – Chirs Millen(sp) not sure about the last name but I am close…..

MemberYeah I would be really surprised if Millen doesn’t swim both IM’s and the 200 fly

Newton is not entered in the 4 IM. He will be a force to be reckoned with in the 2 Free.

Memberi feel like nationals would be a different meet if they allowed for more than 3 individual events. you would have studs like newton, peterson, byers, millen scoring 80+ points. remember the days of age group swimming… 9 events a weekend.

MemberNewton will be under 1:40 for sure, but Curtis is going to just tear this race up. I would think 1:37.5 would be his winning time.
