MemberI am not all that familiar with Olivet’s team. Who are they missing? They still have fetters, miesner, koji, yuri, jaffe, powers. Those are most of their big names…right?

The biggest name missing is Igor, who was a 1:44 200 guy as well as being very strong in other events. Guins is also gone (was he the howler?) who is a sub minute breastroker. They are also missing a couple of diver, so they will “only” have 4 this year. The 47.1 100 freestyler everyone (including me) thought they were getting is also not on the roster…

MemberThey are also missing Paul Riha (50- 22.3, 100 bk- 58.3, 2 bk- 2:09) and Steven Davis (500- 4:47, 200- 1:48, 1650- 16:42). Davis scored big points for OC by finishing right behind Jaffe in the 500 and beating him in the 1650. Riha didn’t contribute as many points but still losing someone lack that who had the potential to get faster this yr may hurt.

Memberhow do these missing swimmers change Olivets relays? Are they still considered the favorites to win the MIAA?

MemberI would think that the effect on relays (other than the 800 FR and a little on the 400 FR) are minimal and no, i would not consider them favorites for the title. Hope would be the strong favorites to win with Olivet the favorite for 2nd.

I know Nick Stone is a lil faster than that (usually goes more for club than high school)
22.3, 48.6, 1:47But you’re right, nothing great, but a few more depth guys

MemberLuke Barry is from the Upper Peninsula, that is why you did not see him on any of the state meet results. I believe the young man has been 22 low, 48 and 1:48. No offense to the Upper Peninsula but the last decent swimmer to come out of there now swims on Kenyon’s 200 Free Relay. I could be dead wrong but I suspect the training in that neck of the woods isn’t what it will be at Olivet. I see Barry as the sleeper of the class.

Don’t worry. I don’t think that they have internet up there yet.

MemberKalamazoo has a UP swimmer as well and is expecting big drops from that young man. I think everyone is excited to see how their swimmers drop time but as far as ranks of the classes as far as MIAAs is concerned, i would have to put the order as:
1. Hope
2. Kzoo
3. Calvin
4. Olivet
5. AlbionIf NCAAs is taken into account, Kzoo and Hope may flip flop.

After having done further research, it appears he is not actually from the UP, but did swim UP state meet. Colin Dueweke is from Harbor Springs Michigan, which is actually just way the f up north, and therefore swims against UP competition. Technically I was incorrect, but would have been correct had i said he’s from the UP State Meet.

MemberThis is interesting. I was unaware that people from the Upper LP (say Traverse City, Petoskey, Harbor Springs, Charlevoix, etc.) swam against the UP. I always attributed the lack of a Northern presence at State meet to the fact that there’s not a huge swimming presence up there. And after all, the Norsemen come down and play football in the South (see TC St. Francis, for example).
Also, I’m only an ass some of the time.

Nathan Busscher and Mike Schroeder.
Those two are probably their best recruits then Stone.

MemberJaffe is the only one coming in that has times that would be close to top 6 at MIAAs right now. The others could drop and get there, but Jaffe’s the only recruit that i could say that about. They are all OK swimmers, but nothing outstanding, typical Olivet class. I am sure a couple will improve quite a bit this year, but I wouldn’t put it with any of the other 3 MIAA schools’ classes.
