MemberHarris takes the 1 fly, Thomas sweeps the backs, and nobody sets a record.
The mile will be the best race of the meet: If Dunn has an off season after this rumored burnout, then you have to look at Borland, Lake, Davis, Bubb and Rantz as a pack who could all win…and those 5 were within 2 seconds of each other!

MemberI’m gonna go ahead and say Chase Gross wins the 1fly. He was only about .05 away last year. I’ll also say Bobo gives Westby a run at 2im, Thomas in both backs and that GCC guy repeats in the 50.

MemberFirst of all, I want to say that I will give Nathan Smith 10 seconds on the field if anyone wants to take me on that “offering”. Kenyon’s streak for having the individual winner of the 1650 doesn’t date back to the 80’s for no reason.
Second of all, I am interested to hear why Thomas wins both backstokes? I see the argument for the 200, but not the 100. Any special reason? I’d love to hear the arguments because it would suck if you both just agreed with me.

MemberWow. No more than 2 weeks into the season and silentp has all his picks up already. You really need more to do at work!! I think your picks look good, but then again I don’t know nearly enough at the national level to neither confirm nor refute any of your picks.

Thomas had the #1 time pretty much all season, and we have can’t be sure what he would have gone in finals if it wasn’t for his unfortunate (& bizarre) early flip. If I were he, I’d be pissed, and focused all year on proving that swim was a fluke. Mitchell is great, and you have to call him the favorite, but I have a hunch it’ll turn out differently.
As for Smith, the best time I saw on him was a 15:49 – that certainly makes him a serious contender, but I wouldn’t write off the veterans so early. Borland can keep Kenyon’s streak alive just as well as Smith – it’s not like Coach Steen picks a miler pre-season and says “this is the guy for 2008.” Has Smith been faster than 15:49? If not then I’m not ready to pick a freshman since those other guys all went under 15:40 last year.

Memberfirstly, their were rumors floating the Thomas tapered himself for some meets. secondly, i cant see westby winning without a contest and the likelihood of him winning is lessening by the day. finally, what about a scott in the fly?

That GCC guy has taken a year off to train for Olympic Trials

Member1. Thomas was winning the back when he did his early turn. If he swims 100 yards he wins. I’m on the Thomas bandwagon.
2. That GCC guy that won the 50 was Whitbeck. The other guy (the one that finished 2nd but won the 100) is the one taking the year off. It should be a tight race again between Mitchell and Whitbeck. I’d like to see more times from both before I make a call.

MemberYeah I think its Whitbeck in the 50. He’ll have that confidence of being defending champion. The 50 is a crapshoot though so it could be someone who hasn’t yet made a lot of noise.

I agree, Diggs has been swimming out of control. A 357 definitely puts him in contention to win this year. Did anyone happen to see his 1539 mile and 433 in the 500. Diggs is really leading emory’s swim team right now with an outstanding season thus far. I am excited to see how he does at NCAAs.

Just win? I was thinking a Nat Record was possible after that swim…
