MemberAfter the meet in Houston I was thinking how Mitchell from Kenyon had showed a huge improvement from last year’s championships, thus contributing to Kenyon’s larger margin of victory than expected. So I did a little research and came up with a list of improvements (?) from the meet in Minneapolis. I looked at those upperclassmen who scored 20 or more points in the individual swimming events in Houston.
So…Dunn……… Kenyon…….60…….43
Sr…Gosselar……Kenyon…….56……41
Jr….Mitchell…….Kenyon…….52.5…..0
So…Westby…….St. Olaf…….48.5….39
Sr…Ulrich………Denison…….48…….35
So…Stewart……G.A.C………47……..9.5
Jr….Courage….Grove City…46…….36
Sr…Spinelli…….Williams……45…….45
Jr….Millen………Williams……45……DNS
Sr…Peterson…..Denison……42…….50
Jr….Lake……….Emory………39…….40
Jr….Stoyel……..Kenyon…….38.5…..22
Sr…Zarins……..Kenyon…….37……..11
So…Curtis……..Denison……37……..30
So…Marshall…..Carlton…….36……..18
Sr…Krzeminski….C.M.U…….32……..20
So…Schranck….Carthage….32………0
Sr…Roberts….Wheaton-MA…30…….13
Sr…Edwards……M.I.T……….30…….DNS

Sr…Hagemeyer…G.A.C…….27………1.5
Jr….Drake…….Santa Cruz…27……..DNS
So…Gross……..UWSP……….27……….7
Jr….Carpenter….USMMA……26………30
Jr….Test…………J.H.U……….26………16
So…Bobo……….Emory………26……….5
Jr….Rantz………Kenyon……..25……..20
Jr…Wentworth-P…Williams….25……..10
So…Scott………..Williams……25……..25
Sr…Amundson….G.A.C………24………8
Sr…Ginder………W&L………..24………32
Jr….Jole……….Carthage…….24……….1
Sr…Collier……Middlebury…..24………DNS
So…Brown…….Emory……….24……….4
Sr…Callam……Emory………..21……….7
Sr…T. Roos…..Emory………..20……….7
So…Whitbeck…Grove City….20……….0Of these top individual placers – the top 3 most improved go to Mitchell (Kenyon), Stewart (GAC) and Schranck (Carthage). Congratulations!!
The three men from Gustavus on this list showed the greatest percentage improvement (19 to 98), and definitely contributed to their team’s 5th place at Nationals.
Of the eight Kenyon upperclassmen on this list we find an overall improvement from 157 to 326. Understandingly this contributed greatly to Kenyon’s effort this year.
Any comments from others?
