MemberThe Kzoo roster is up.
http://www.kzoo.edu/sports/msd/msd07-08/msdrstr07-08.html
Even though they only got four freshmen, they are pretty decent catches.
Arbour scored at D1 State meet, 13th I believe. He will be a factor in the diving points seeing that he will probably knock the Olivet divers down.
Bazzell a soild freestyler with a 47 100 and 22 low 50. He will be able to replace dmitruk on the 400 free relay. Does he have a 200?
Brower is a 55 back, which will give them more depth in the back and a few more points in the 100 back.
I couldnt find anything on Fleming. If any one knows times, please, post.
Can this group make an impact on MIAA’s this year?
Olivets roster is also up.
http://www.olivetcollege.edu/athletics/mswimming/roster.phpKinsey-1:48 200 free and 5:00 500(I think he was sub 5)
Beckwith-48 100 and 53.9 back
Harden- 21.8 50 and 48 100 ( rumor is he is out with a broken wrist??)
Maxwell- 52 Fly
Scozarri- 1:02 breast
McMunigal- 1:02 breastWhat do all you poster think of this group of swimmers? So far they have replaced the guys they graduated. Wasson will move up to take weiss’ spot. Beckwith replaces fetter in the back and maxwell in the fly.Harden replaces juan in the sprint free events. Kinsey, as of right now will just be a depth guy. And adding sczarri and Mcunigal with just be the replacements for Key and Miesner.
Does Hope have a chance?

MemberClearly you didn’t try to find Fleming very hard, he’s been 1:46.3 and 48.1 to my knowledge. K has the makings for a very solid freestyle relay now.

Not sure how this will work posting from my blackberry, but here goes… Fleming is a 145.9, in a swim-off at state meet, splitting 26.9 coming home. He also has a 21.7 split to his name from ynats when he swam like complete crap. Perhaps he was too busy checkin out the ft lauderdale hotties.

My personal favorites are the college gameday “fact or fiction” playoffs with reece davis, lee corso and kirk herbstreit

Yes, with stroke work, lifting, and, of course, plenty of “muscle milk” these guys are going to drop lots of time. They haven’t come close to reaching their potential.

Derek-
what else was there to be contributed? hasn’t it already been anounced who olivet and kalamazoo got? this thread was pretty useless as it was…
Okay, i’ll insert the generic comment to keep the thread alive:
Those Kalamazoo freshmen will really help to develop a strong sprinter core on the K swim team. Having a diver and another backstroker will be nice.
…happy?

MemberAlbion too:
Havens believes the Britons have added a group of newcomers that will challenge for school records as well as places on the award stand at the league meet. On the men’s side, Andrew Blank (Bloomfield Hills/Seaholm) is putting in good times in the backstroke, Stephen Congdon (Fenton/Fenton) gives Albion depth in the butterfly and freestyle events, Pat Galey (Clarksburg, W.Va./Mercersburg Academy) has proven to be a good all-around performer in pre-season workouts, brothers Jeff and Matt Keyes (Taylor/Kennedy) are expected to perform in the backstroke, freestyle and IM events, Peter Lundholm (Ann Arbor/Ann Arbor Pioneer) will give Albion an entry in distance freestyle events, and Scott Venettis (Troy/Troy) will attempt the school breaststroke records currently held by John Fodell. Keith Kaplan (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) is joining his brother, Kasey (a sophomore), in the sprint freestyle events.
“It is nice to have a good performer in the breaststroke (on the men’s roster),” Havens said. “We have the pieces, and now we have to put them all together.”

The only one I looked up was Venettis, who was a 59.42 in the BR at the state meet last year.
What’s up Alma? I’m eager to see what the largest class in Alma’s program still might hold after the loss of the coach.

MemberWow… good class for Albion. Weird.
The only school to not do that well is Hope, and they had enough depth that a one year drop-off will not kill them… now another year of that?
MIAA looks to be getting better. Very exciting.

MemberI don’t think that Hope’s small recruiting class will affect them much this year but in the next two years Albion and even Alma will probably surpass the Dutchmen.

MemberGosh, that sucks for Hope. I suppose it is a given then that Calvin and Kzoo will beat them — So basically Hope is looking at dead last in the MIAA in two years.
That’s a D3swimming exclusive, folks!

MemberMav, I looked up the rest of the swimmers for Albion’s incoming class and none of them are close to scoring at MIAA’s with their times coming in. Congdon was a 23 mid at states in the 50. The backstroker was a 59 mid. Lundholm I believe was around a 5:13-5:15, so needs to drop a lot to score, around 15-20 sec. So, other than venettis, who went a 59 low in prelims, they are just bringing in depth for dual meets, not much of an impact at conference.

Didnt realise Jason Hass had anything to do with the MIAA…
Second of all my guess is that it will take a 58 to make the top heat of the breaststroke. If thats true the MIAA could have one of the strongest top ends in the country for breast.
And it looks like King is the odd man out at this point.

You are saying that when Phil Heyboer, Ryan Nelis, Matt Rose, Mitch Ruch, Brandon King, and others are all seniors they are going to get beat by Albion and Alma. Albion got a nice recruiting class, and Alma will vastly improve with a new coach but let’s not get carried away. Now if hope doesn’t get a solid class next year then it might be a different story after last years freshman class graduates. But it’s nothing but speculation at this point.

….PSST: I am pretty sure he was joking ……
Also, no way that 6 guys go a 58.

MemberI didn’t mean to make it sound as if it was a sure thing that Hope would be behind Alma. I just meant that if they continued getting poor recruiting classes then they would be in big trouble.
