GRAND RAPIDS — When he was in the eighth grade, Josh Davis was told by a coach that he should quit swimming. Now, on the very spot where that conversation took place, stands a pool named for Davis.
Davis, 35, who hails from San Antonio, won three gold medals in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta and won two silver medals in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. Davis was the only male athlete to win three gold medals in Atlanta.
Davis addressed members of the Calvin College swimming and diving teams Thursday afternoon and is scheduled to present his Mutual of Omaha Breakout Swim Clinic on Saturday at the EGR Community Pool for 60 members of East Grand Rapids Aquatics.
