Any word on any top recruits? I would think most high school graduates have made their decisions by now.

Will GAC get a sub-minute breaststroker? Or a diver at least?

Will Olaf offer Timmer a choir scholarship to go there?

Will Mac tap into the foreign market and bring in some top meter swimmers from the Bahamas?

Will Carleton admissions accept any swimmer without a 4.0 GPA and extensive knowledge of Star Trek?

Will Hamline become the new powerhouse in DIII swimming?

Will SJU get a new crop of naked pull-up specialists?

I believe I can answer all these questions (and many more) with a single word:

      No.

One could only hope that GA would be able to pull in a sub-minute breaststroker for the up and coming season. Last I heard, there was absolutely no buzz about GAC getting a breaststroker. For now, all they’ve got is Hanson and Mikkelson, with some potential yet to harnessed from Peloquin.

GAC has never been a diving school, maybe someday Carlson will realize how many points he can save at conference by recruiting a couple divers…

Probably not, but I guess there are things in this world that have worse odds.

When was the last time a good swimmer came out of the Bahamas? Can you name one single person who’s ever accomplished anything in the sport of swimming that hailed from the Bahamas??

I think the former is more flexible than the latter. Last I heard they let a 3.95 slide in. He was, however, the son of Captain Kirk so he pulled some extra weight in the Star Trek catergory.

Not unless they get a new pool, the ability to give athletic scholarships, and Michael Phelps as their coach.

Is this some sort of new sport that one could only read about in Obscure Sports Quarterly?

In 1996, in Atlanta, Allan Murray became the first and only Bahamian swimmer to compete in an Olympic Final, finishing third in the “B” Final of the 50m Freestyle.

Christian Campbell was a decent breastsroker back in the day for Mac. Not like conference champ good, but he might have won a boner heat or two at conference and a couple top 8s.

My sources told me GAC did get a solid diver this year. But that source was drunk… or I was.

Now that the frosh are on campus and most teams should have had their introductory meetings, do we have any news yet on what teams have who for sure?

I’d be very interested to know if GA actually did get a diver.

For those of you who follow women’s swimming:
Rumor has it (according to an article in the Stillwater Gazette anyway) that several girls from Stillwater’s state championship team will be competing for MIAC teams.
Among them, for GAC : Marnie Luke, another of Coach Brian Luke’s daughters (sister Maggie is a senior at Gustavus); and Alyssa Henkel, a pretty darn good diver.
Most notably, for St Thomas : Samantha Hajlo, could become one of the top swimmers in the MIAC.
I have no inside info, just hoping the Gazette article was accurate. Anyone know for sure?

TigerTiger, I think you should be posting on d3swimming.com/women/forum.

Any news on men’s recruits? My fantasy draft is less than a month away, and only one team has even bothered to update their roster.

Carleton has posted its women’s roster (10 Frosh) and a Quick Facts listing. Looks like a fine diver and some decent backstrokers. The men’s roster has not been updated but there is a Quick Facts page that lists 6 top Frosh – couple of 55 second backstrokers, a 1:01 Breaststroke, a 1:48 200 Free and some decent 50/100 Free times – no Freo but a good size class – something the Knights needed.

The MIAC women will have no shortage of backstrokers this year. The new one at Carleton (Kale Zicafoose…don’t you love that name?) could possibly be as fast as Becky Alexander.
St. Thomas has also gained a couple of backstrokers. In addition to Jena Root, they now have Rebecca Ney and the previously mentioned Samantha Hajlo.

      Kale – 59.5, 2:10 back; 1:00 fly; 55.6 free

      VERY solid pickup
