I’ve only nailed down Amundson and Hagemeyer for the GAC 200 Free relay. Who else makes the cut? With only two spots left I’m having trouble putting one together.

On one hand Amundson, Hanson, Stewart, and Hagemeyer put up a pool record 1:26 high against Carleton only to have this erased by Amundson, Hanson, Winter, and Hagemeyer with a 1:26 low a week later. Granted Amundson dropped half a second alone on the lead out, I put Winter and Stewart at the same rank.

Here’s who I have on the chopping block, in order from highest chance to lowest:

      Hanson
      Stewart / Winter
      Wakefield
      Auyeung
      Pearson

      Discuss.

Hanson and Stewart are most likely to go the 500 free. It can be done, but it is unlikely for them to go back to back with the 200 free relay and the 500 free, considering both should make nationals and have a shot at the top 8.

I have it from an inside source that neither Hanson nor Stewart will swim the 200 free relay. But look for Hanson to possibly swim breast on at least one of the medleys.

Since the prelims of the 50 are before the 200 free relay, Assistant to the Coach, Andy Hagen will be able to pick the two swimmers showing the best taper. My bet is

      Amundson
      Winter
      Wakefield
      Hagemeyer

Can I ask who your ‘inside source’ is, because unless it is Jon Carlson it probably doesn’t mean much right now, since I would be willing to bet Jon doesn’t even know who he is going to put on it.

Hanson, Stewart, Winter, Wakefield, Auyeung and Pearson are all great choices because they all could go a 21.0 or under with a relay start, but what I think it will come down to, especially if GAC wants to make a run at a National title, is which 2 of those 6 guys thrive under pressure. Because when it comes down to it the ability to go a 20.5 don’t mean crap if you choke and go a 22.0.

what were the splits on the 1:24.1 they just went on Sat? I know that AMundson went 20.8, which is just blazing. What did the splits look like for the other 3

If Amundson leads off in 20.8 the rest have to average 21.1 to go 1:24.1. Which is pretty fast. That does not answer you questions, but just a thought.

      No you can’t.

      Hansen 21.4?
      Winter 21.4?
      Hagemeyer 20.4?

      okay, then I’ll ask:
      who is your inside source?

    • #34596

His inside source… his brain… it is “inside” his head.

If he has someone claiming to know who is on the relay… they are only guessing. Period.

I guarentee that Carlson does not know who is on the relay yet, and from what I know of Carlson, he will not make his final decision until only a couples days before. I can still recall not knowing wether I was on a relay THE MORNING OF that relay.

    • #34597

I agree that Hanson and Stewart don’t swim it. They didn’t swim on the relay last year… and they were both fast then too. I think the 500 is too important to both guys (and the team) to mess with.

Jon has the GAC swimmers eating pressure for breakfast. So I don’t think performing under pressure is that big of a factor (1.5 seconds).

I wouldn’t be surprised if Jon took the 2 guys with the best 25 times in warm-ups from the morning session.

Guys don’t swim prelim relays in the morning sessions anymore, right? I thought they stopped that when Zelen almost got DQed for doing a swan dive relay start and pissing off the Mac coach. True story.

      My prediction:
      Amundson
      Winter
      Auyeung
      Hagemeyer

Does it really matter who’s on it? I’m pretty sure they’ll win.

Middie in reality not much of what goes on on this great site matters… But seeing as how duals are done and the Psych sheet doesn’t come out until Friday, let us have our fun!
