MemberJust wondering if anyone cared about the duals this weekend? Hope v. Albion, K v. Cal, and Olivet v. Alma. Obviously, I think the K v. Cal meet could be a great showdown. Anyone know if K is full strength? I hope Sixbags has something to say about this meet or his girlfriend…either one will do.
I think K could pull an upset if they are full strength and they write the right lineup. They can definitely win both br and bk events and the med. Julio will have a shot in the 500 and 1000. If some of their other freestylers have a good meet it could be close.
Oh yeah, and for silentp, no I didn’t forget about Dekker…he could have a good meet too. Also, if there is anything I may have forgotten or didnt rave about K enough just let me know cause I have a feeling you will be the first to respond to this post…like either other post.
Olivet v. Alma…obviously
Albion v. Hope…If only Krone and Bacon could swim everything and not get tired…sometimes I think Krone has that ability, then Albion could put up a fight. Heyboer is not in the 1000 or 500 so no showdown there.

MemberAlso, I heard something about K time trialing the medley relay at the Cal dual meet…I don’t know, just what I heard. Good Luck and hope you get your cut.

MemberI agree stewie, Calvin vs. K will be a great meet. K will dominate all strok events, and Calin will do their thing in the middle distance events. Split the relays, and you have one great meet. I give K the win in the water, but Calvin will dominate the boards, which will give them the meet. Just my thoughts.

MemberI’m also looking forward to the meet. This should be Kalamazoo men’s best meet of the year.
(There, silentp isn’t the first K guy to respond…)

MemberDoes anyone know if the Kalamazoo “baby killers” are going to have a full roster this weekend? If they are, I think they’ll get the win, but I wouldn’t quite say it would be an upset.

MemberI’ve heard it will be a full roster. Of course, given their new nickname, Calvin already forfeited in protest.

MemberSo I was proven wrong about Calvin forfeiting in protest, but I was right about it being a close meet… Looking at the results, it must have been a great meet to watch. My inside sources tell me that one Kalamazoo women’s team alumna was there, but I didn’t get any info on the men… was anybody there?
I know AJP was there, anybody else?
Anyway, check out the results:
https://d3swimming.com/results/results.php?meetid=443
Observations:
Gruvers made Ellis finish hard in the 200 back
Tuuk, Conrad, and Contreras get the “best race” award for the 500. Look at those splits!
JBG and Ellis had a good race in the 100 fly, Ellis was charging from what I hear but JBG was out just a little too fast (thanks AJP).I’m excited to see Kalamazoo swim when they can finish a bit stronger. I noticed that when it was close, Kalamazoo didn’t have the energy to get to the wall first. This will change at MIAAs and should result is some pretty awesome swimming.

MemberUmm…
I know Miller was there, but that’s all I saw.
50 Free. Sorry Derek. Ress was 21.47, to Espinosa’s 22.42. That’s 95/100ths 🙂
500 was amazing, which led to the 100 Fly being the event that decided whether we had a shot. JBG won and after diving, calvin down by 4.
Hero of the meet for zoo, was booms. He and Dekker’s 1-2 in the IM sealed the deal. If things went differently, a win in the relay could have won it for Calvin.
Great meet all around. Can’t wait to see what MIAAs brings.

MemberWhy did Greiner only swim 1 event?
Based on the results the guys looked really really tired. Fenwick goes a 1:05 in the 100 breast!?
The 50 had 5 freshmen swimming in the scoring heat.

Insight
MemberLooked like the K v. C meet was a good one. The one thing I was surprised with was the K freestylers. I know there were some good swims but what about the 400 Medley relay at MIAA. What will they do? Ellis/Foni/dekk, but I would imagine it will just be a crap shot to whoever has the best 50 that day. Am I right? Someone from K response?
I do NOT want to turn this into a K v. H at MIAA thread, if that is possible. I’d rather have people respond to the meets this weekend.
Also, I heard Toll transferred to K and was lumped in with “The Baby Killers”, that is why he wasn’t there. But seriously, does anyone know where he was? If he was there, it could be have a different meet….

MemberTime i was impressed with:
24.4 by ellis in the 50 back
21.4 in the 50 by ress, wow, swim of the weekend in the MIAA!
10:39 by chris heintz, 20-some seconds off his dual meet PR
48.6 by JBG in the 100
54.2 by Groth in the 1fly
1:48.0 by Nelis in the 200
55.6 by Collins in the 100 back
21.8 split by Voss on the MR
55.9 by Spencer Johnson in the 100 back
4:50 by Yury in the 500
2:02 by Key in the 200 IM
Just what i saw anyway…

MemberThat is a pretty good list. Just to be clear, he was pointing out swims that stand out based on the individual, not the best swims of the weekend.
I agree that the swims of the weekend were the 24.4 and the 21.4 Ress has a history of swimming well in season, but maybe he could pop off a 20.9 and makes Nats?
If that is true about Jethro Tull, then Calvin should be more concerned about Albion (5th place) than Kzoo (3rd). That also all but ends their shot at getting a relay to Nationals.

MemberWith Toll out, Cal 8 fr will not be nearly as strong. Conrad as the forth now to replace Toll? I think with Toll out Hope is the clear favorite and Olivet should be able to take second.
The 2 fly will also free up a little but will still be a quick event with Yury, Dekker, Koji, Nelis, Waterstone, Fetters.
What about Cal 4 fr??

MemberMy dear boy Stewart, I do not believe the absence of Toll will have any effect on the 400 Free Relay at Calvin. It will still be quite strong.

MemberEllis had a great 50 back, but I was a little surprised with his time in the 100 back. I was thinking we would see 52 low after that 24.4 split

Member2 Great meets this coming weekend, Hope vs GVSU and K vs Olivet. Hope finally gets to dual GVSU when they aren’t rested and K vs Olivet probably won’t be that close, but should show some quick times as teams come down for the MIAA taper. It’s interesting to see how the begining of taper effects certain swimmers though. I will predict 1 pool record will fall with the meet at Kzoo.
