MemberWOW. Congrats to the Boys of Baltimore on a great relay win. It was never even all that close. Each guy dropped major time from this morning to come up big. Coach Kennedy has never had a relay win at NCAAs and I am so glad he finally got 1. He deserves it. Smoke em Jays.

MemberA couple of notes from the meet:
1) Whitbeck and COurage have the smoothest strokes out there. Whitbeck will have a much better 100 than he did at conference.
2) Espinosa was really slow off the blocks. He’ll be 55.6 or better tomorrow.
3) In the 500 Free there was a flash and everyone got called back (this is what cause the delay if you were checking on-line). Everyone stopped by the 25 accept Northcutt. He ended up doing the full 50. Ouch
4) Curtis outsplit Dunn on every 50 for the 2nd half of the race. In fact Dunn only out-split Curtis on 4 of the 10 50’s of the race (with two of the margins being less than .04). For whatever reason Curtis’ 2nd 50 was really slow and he wasn’t able to catch up. Wierd.
5) There wasn’t any consistency in the 200 IM. With only 3 acceptions everyone either added or took off a lot of time.
6) Josh Mitchell looked suprised when he didn’t win the 50. He had a good swagger walking up to the blocks.
&) I think I heard that Bobby Brown is sick.

Member55.6 for Espinosa? That would be fast. I am saying it now it will be a 1-2 finish for Kenyon in the 100 breast. Both boys will be in the 55 mid range.

The Kenyon guys are swimming really really fast. So while I am quite confident Espinosa will go around 55.6 (again, he was very slow off the blocks), I would not be surprised if the Kenyon guys are just as fast/ faster.

Member1) That sucks for Brown and the Brown family. Blah.
2) There was a short 50 year old man timing in lane two tonight. He had the world record in the 50 M free before it was a recognized event (went 22.4 in 1980) and was the 2nd guy to break 20 in the 50 free. HIs name is Gary Schotz.

Well, you don’t normally expect to get beat by the guys in lane 1 and lane 2. Personally, I blame Coach Fritz. π

That’s awful. I’m sure this isn’t the first time this has happened to a swimmer at this time of year, but I can’t even imagine trying to swim through a meet like this under those circumstances. More power to him to get through the weekend.

MemberA couple interesting points from the meet:
1 – for the second straight year the winner and runner up of the 50 are from the same team
2 – two consecutive events were won from lane 1 (Westby, 200 IM; Whitbeck, 50)
3 – two consecutive events were 1-2 by teammates (50, 1 meter diving) -

You can’t even see lane 1 from the stands. The whole race I was saying “Courage,” and was so surprised when the 2 popped up next to his name.
