He was really quick midseason and we talk a lot about his fly, so his IM should be getting more hype. I’ll take him still for 3rd, but in a quick time, perhaps 1:55 or even 54.

Their middle 2 are better than Hope’s middle 2 and their anchor isn’t too shabby, so they could pull it off, but they’d need a bad race from Heyboer.

Unfortunately for Calvin, backstroke and breastroke are a part of this relay. Olivet, the returning champs, could be 2nd though because Fetters won’t be far behind Heyboer and their middle 2 legs will catch up, plus Powers can really bring it home.

Also, look for Alma to try to avenge their loss to the Alumni Relays last year in this event.

I’m really not sure where he’s been before, but I’ll take Justin Fenwick.

Could very well be 3rd with a 58 and should battle with Key.

This is our chance to see how the new Alma coach handles a solid recruit in his first year (55 in high school).

I agree, but I wanted to take the opportunity to say how much I will miss watching him swim the 200 fly. In case you’ve never seen it, last year he went: 55-low, 1:07-high for splits. 2 years ago, to try to beat PBG, he was out in 53 but back in 1:04-high. You can’t say he didn’t give it his all.

Maybe, but I’ve got a name for you, it starts with Ju, ends with Stin Fenwick. He was 2:09 at midseason and is a senior. Plus he finally has a full year of training under his belt after his trip to China. He’s my sleeper for 2nd, yes 2nd.

In your thead of 2007 Event Winners, you picked him to win. Not sure he’s a sleeper. Nelis could be a big sleeper here also though.

I like Calvin, but this unintential funny had to be pointed out, come on.

I was going over some of the different relay combos that all the different teams could do. Calvin has an intereing predictament with the medleys. If they are looking to contend in either medley, I would suspect you would see JBG dabble in the backstroke, a la older brother a few years ago. This would give them:

      JBG
      ??
      Conrad
      Ress

They have VanAllsburg for the end if Ress moved to fly and Conrad moved to breast. Either way, not enough to compete with the other three. They will probably be looking at 4th in both medleys.

Their free relays will be fast. 800 of Ress/JBG/Tuuk/Conrad is nothing to sneeze at and the 200 free relay is going to be an exciting one with everyone at Hope’s heels.

Aren’t Tuuk and CVB alike in the sense that they both have a nice 50 fly?

I hate to admit this (since I’m pulling for Hope), but I think Yury Bylina is a dark horse to win all three of his events.
Most of the Olivet guys (Meisner, Jaffee, Fetters, Takahashi) have put up times this year that are significantly off of what they did last year at the MIAA meet. This is not a dig at them, it just fits the pattern from previous years and is consistent with a team that does not tapper mid season.
For Bylina it’s a different story. He is faster in the 200 IM, and only .30 slower in the 200 fly. In the 400 IM he is three seconds slower then at MIAAs last year, but is three seconds faster then last years seed time. To me, that is consistent with a guy who is about to make some significant time drops.
I know Heyboer has a huge advantage in the 400 IM when you look at seed times, but he better not be surprised if Bylina is right next to him late in the race.
Personally, I hope he pulls off some huge times and guys like Heyboer, Waterstone, and Nelis rise to the challenge.
These should be some great races and I wish I could attend.
