MemberFellow D3 swimming enthusiasts,
Moderator Jansens big news was that K will win the league meet next year. Well, he is wrong. Here is the big news…
Former Hope assistant coach, Jake Taber, is now the head swim coach at Olivet College. It’s true. As shocking as this sounds, I heard it straight from the horse’s mouth. Congratulations to Jake on this great opportunity. But this doesn’t mean that I would EVER want Olivet to beat Hope.
Now the real question is… Should Olivet have a mid-season shave meet? In my opinion, yes. And I have expressed this opinion to the new head coach. It will make scoring the league meet a heck of a lot easier.
Go Hope.

MemberWell I’ll be damned. Congratulations, Jake! There’s no mention yet of this on Olivet’s site, but whatever, this forum is as credible as any other source 😉
I suspect that Olivet will now do a mid-season shave since it’s what Jake knows and all. League Meet Scorers rejoice!

MemberI will go ahead and confirm what Stevo said, just in case there was any doubt about the information.
Oh, and Milhouse… your new avatar is far scarier than your old one. But seriously, what happened to the picture of Milhouse?

MemberGreat hire for Olivet and will really help their program. Probably not much of a class coming in, but going to be a bright future.
Also, bad for Hope in the short term, with getting this year’s recruits for next year’s freshmen and the future. I am sure they will end up alright though.

MemberThere is no reason they shouldn’t. All the other teams do, and it’s a great place to see where the team is as a whole in terms of a benchmark to see where the training regiment needs to go from that point in the season.

MemberIf I were Taber, I’d try and get into the Miami Invite or the NIKE Cup at Kenyon. Even if you are trounced, it is a good thing to be able to say, “We swim against some of the best Division III teams in the country on a regular basis. We even swim against good Division I teams. Our goal is always to improve and we know that putting ourselves in challenging situations makes us better.”

MemberYou have to be careful going to some of those faster invites. Kenyon came to the OSU invite (Minnesota, Penn State, OSU, MSU. Iowa and Kenyon on the men’s side) two years ago and only their very best made finals. Most others were swimming in the consi or bonus heat. I think it is a big advantage to go to an invite that has prelims and finals for that swim- twice-a-day experience as long as you are placing a high number of kids in the second session that is.

MemberI would go to the TYR Invite that Carthage puts on. Doesn’t take a lot to get back so all the Olivet guys will get 2 swims but also has the top guys from Olaf and GAC and even Carthage, who would have 200 breastrokers for meisner to race if he rests.
