MemberRosters are popping up all over the internet these days. I’m wondering, what team is the biggest? I’m talking combined numbers, swimmers and divers.
Nobody will be suprised that I’m putting Denison out there. 37 Men, 31 Women, total 68. Emory is two behind but even splitting like a champ, 33 for both Men and Women. Anybody out there breaking 70?
Looks like Williams does, with 39 Women and 32 Men. 71 is pretty huge.

MemberAlthough their roster for this year is not up yet, Gustavus usually has huge teams.
Last year: 36 men, 48 women, total 84. -

MemberAt what point does that start to become detrimental to training…because once you put more than say 4 ppl in a lane it gets to crowded. I guess if you have coaches that are willing to be on deck 24/7 running a million practices it is ok but I don’t know how many teams do that.

MemberI agree. Once you get more than 4 or 5 people in a lane I would imagine it becomes detrimental. Also, coaches have to split their time between all of those people, which means less individual attention.

Gustavus can handle a lager roster because they have a 25 yard x 25 meter pool which gives them 10 lanes and two half lanes to work with. Even with 4 in a lane they can get 40 into the pool. Many teams have three practice options (for teams like Carelton which has a six lane pool, this helps out), which Gustavus also does (one in the morning, two in the evening. If you do the morning practice and you have two practice options you still have to do the shorter practice in the evening). When I swam there, depending on when people went to practice and when the divers practiced, sometimes you might only have 2 people in some lanes, despite a large roster. Or do as I always did, take the half lane and have a lane to yourself. (Cirlce swimming sucks!!)

MemberKenyon usually doesn’t officially post their team until after their relay meet. (I think they were later last year, though) That meet will be this coming weekend, I believe. I don’t think Coach feels that the team is officially a team until after that first competition.

43 dudettesThis has to be one of the first years, at least that I can remember, where there has been an almost equal ration of guys and gals. I’m not, however, surprised that the total team size is around 85, as this has been the case for the past few years. Usually this 85 person count consisted of men in the low 30s and women in the low 40’s.
It’s nice to see that the men’s program is getting these kind of numbers. At the same time though, this means that the women’s teams is down in numbers. Hopefully this won’t hurt their shot at repeating.

43 dudettesDo you all fit on one bus? If not, do the slow swimmers have to rent an additional short bus?

MemberSeeing as you only get 18 swimmers at conference anyway, going from 40s to 30s won’t hurt you unless you lose the wrong 10 swimmers.

For Duels meets GAC only takes one bus. Top swimmers who fit on the bus go. For the fall/winter invite they go to they take 2.
