MemberLet the praying begin….
We may be getting another Mexican next year. His name is Santiago Morales and he’s fast…4:04 in the 400 IM, 1:55 in the 200 Fly, 52 in the 100 Fly, 2:10 in the 200 Breast, 4:50 in the 500, 55 Back (he’s good all around)…
Outside the pool this kid is a STUD in the classroom too: 3.9 GPA, 1330 SAT, Top of his class….
But like I said, this is a looooooong shot because 1) we don’t know if this kid is for real yet and 2) money…
Unlike Julio and Fonzy, he is a 100% mexican citizen. Because he is not a US citizen, he can’t get the financial aid that Fonzy and Julio got. However, things are being worked out by Steve at the moment. We know he will get a big academic scholarship, but will it be enough?
Start praying….this could be a HUGE pick up

MemberSweet. I had hoped we opened the latin floodgates with Espinosa, just like Kenyon did with Pedro Monteiro 12 years ago.
Close that deal ๐

I talked to David Lee Groth and he said that he has applied, but K was having trouble getting the essay portion… not because he didn’t submit it, but something going wrong online, so he’s resubmitting.
The same problem is had by Ruben, the 47 freestyler from Texas who is friends with Julio. Ruben is a mexican american and therefore will get more money than the mexican army to go to K, if he’s smart.
Last year saw 2 rabbits, another rabbit would be awesome.

MemberThe rabbit has told Steve that if he gets in he wants to come… I don’t know what this means exactly and if he can afford it, but I like what I am hearing thus far

MemberA guy who went a 49.9 at the end of the year, even if he wasn’t tapered and wore a drag suit cannot be counted to go a 46. I’ll look and see what I can find, but I am doubting these times.

MemberOn the USA swimming database, which does a good job but isn’t perfect, the best time i found for him was a 53.69 in the 100 fly that looked like it might be from a taper meet. He was a 23 in the 50 and a 51 in the 100, so that 49.9 might be a good swim for him (ouch!). But hey, a 53 flyer isn’t horrible… except when you’re told he’s a 47 flat start 100 guy.
