MemberI was wondering if people knew the all time best splits for relays, whether it be at NCAAs, conference meet, or other. I’d like proof of splits, not just “i heard…”, hopefully this could grow and be put under All-Time performances on the site. Here is the very brief list i have, please add to it! (A Top Ten would be ideal)

I suppose the question is, do we want to top 10 swims, or the top 10 swimmers? I say the latter, and I second the motion. But that’s just me. And facenorth.

MemberI would suggest that if you really want all the correct splits, contact Dr. Schutt from Kenyon. If you listen to him at the national meet, he has them all in his head and he is dead on. The man is amazing and I promise that his stats are positively correct!

i agree, although its very impressive that MCB went those times, it’s more interesting to see the other people who went fast. its just like how no one really wants to see the top 10 times from the 200 IM in the world. 1. phelps, 2. phelps, 3. phelps….
i also agree with contacting dr schutt. he’s probably got a stat sheet that he keeps track of so he can use as a reference during nats. that and i love his accent, which is the voice i would hear when reading his email.

Gary Simon:

That would be an accent overload and I, for one, would love it! I seem to walk around for months after Nationals saying ‘Mark Courtney Brooks’ in his voice. It’s addicting. This way, we could do it all year round!

25.1 (breast)
21.6 (fly)
55.2 (breast)

48.19 100 fly
Sam Gyorfi
19.88 50 Free (Wheaton Invite)Those are all of the possibly relevant Wheaton splits. Besides PG’s 100 free of course.
Mulvihill split a 43 something – it was #4 behind MCB, Born and Gyorfi at some point (maybe still).
What were Hake and Duda’s fastest 100 fly’s. Duda was 21.32? 50 fly in 2003, prelims.
Hake was 21.41 50 fly, but as I now recall, jumped on his 100 fly leg last year.
Gyorfi was
20.34 – 23.18: 43.52
but
21.70 – 23.23: 44.93 in the open event. It was in his head – he lost that race before he even stepped up on the blocks… before the season started even. He just accepted that he could not beat MCB. Not that I wouldn’t have in the same position! He was the faster swimmer that year. Oh well. : p -

I think sophomore year Duda and I were in the 47.8-9 range. Not sure if we were ever faster than that. And while I’m sure it doesn’t count, if you add in the glorious -.12 reaction time I think I would have been 47.13 last year. A DQ yes, but I’m still proud of the time.

Wasn’t Cole 54.3 in Denison’s medley in 1999 also?It has been mentioned a bunch of times before but Travis Miller split 1:36.9 on the end of their 8 free relay that one year.
Francioli may have been about 23.2 50 back split on steven’s points then nat record 200 MR. I think boelk swam fly in those medleys.

Also, Dave Lofthus was 48.15 in 2003 on JHUs 400 MR.

MemberI remember that Eric Steidinger split about a 19.7 in the 200 FR or 200 MR in the 1993 NCAA’s at Emory. He also had a fast 100 free split. Hopkins guys can start digging for the splits.
Does a 200 MR of Latronica, Boss, Gyorfi and Cole beat a Kenyon All-Time relay?
Does a 400 MR of Cunningham, Boss, Cole and Gyorfi beat the Kenyon All-Star Relay? I’m assuming that Cole’s 100 fly split would be pretty quick even if there isn’t one out there.
Is there then a non-Kenyon 200 and 400 FR that can win?
What about the All-Time top 18 Non-Kenyon swimmers vs the All-Time Kenyon swimmers in a dual meet? We’re getting closer than ever to having this settled.
Don’t forget to include the stars of the 1980’s and 1990’s: Seidman (BR), Johnson (Fly), Steidinger, Miller, Flowers, etc.

It beats the NCAA record, but does in beat the all-time Kenyon relay (swimmers made up of any team)?
Does anyone know the time for the 200 MR would be for Kenyon if it was made up of their all time best splits?

1:28.5 is probably as fast as they would ever go, unless someone can confirm that Howell was 19.4Considering that is only .3 faster than their actual record, that’s probably wrong. You also used Hunt when the lead off for their record was Avila, who had a best of 22.6 and was under 23.0 several times, as posted earlier in this thread.
