      Hello!
I hope everyone is having a great summer!
Here I am sitting at work, bored to death so I thought I should see what’s new in our conference.
From what I hear a lot of new things have happened over the last couple of months.
I don’t know what is going with Wheeling but I thought I heard Coach Stewart is not their coach anymore and they had only few swimmers last year so I really hope they don’t drop the program.
      Salem is coming back.
St.Andrews Presbyterian College coming in with a great young coach Jason Gallaher.
      Wingate looking for an assistant.
W&L hired a women’s coach and with Mike as an assistant coach I think Coach Shinofield can really focus on his guys which will make them even faster. I saw that McGlaston and Sweet are posting some fast times this summer.
Last thing I heard Regnier lost his scholarship due to a knee surgery (I am having a hard time not commenting that since he is a great friend of mine, and whoever knows him know what a great guy and a swimmer he is) and SCAD is bringing a guy from Israel going 47 fly!!!!

I am sure there are more things happening.

      Matej,

Hope you are enjoying Myrtle despite your boredom. Do they not give you time off for mini-golf?

It is true that Ginder will return to Lexington to serve as an assistant to both teams. He is living in Baltimore this summer, coaching at NBAC and trying to learn a few tricks of the trade. Kami Gardner’s arrival should make the men’s team stronger for 2 reasons: 1) As you said it will allow Joel to direct more energy to the men’s squad, but also 2) She has a great track record of coaching men, and since the teams practice together she will be great for both. I don’t believe Alex has raced yet this summer, but will be swimming next to Cullen Jones in the prelims of the 100 at sectionals in Nashville because the conversion of his 45.2 makes him the 5th seed. Good stuff. Tim went 24.5 and 55.something last weekend. Both those guys are working hard in the pool, weight room (and their research labs), so it should really pay off in December and March.

That is a shame about Regnier. I am shocked by this 47 guy though, I mean he must REALLY love Art if he’s coming here to go to SCAD. That’s a D1 kind of time.

      Reed,

I am surprised by that Israelian too, I don’t know if my sources were good, I read through the message probably 3 times to make sure it wasn’t a mistake.
You are right about Alex, I heard he will swim only once this summer and he is tapering for that meet so I assumed he is fast and as for Tim I saw that victory in Pitt.
It is looking really good for your team and they definitely needed that after Wingate shook them good.

I got to play some mini-golf, I swam few times, played couple of tennis tournaments but I don’t have enough time to do anything on a constant basis.

Alex swam 24.2! That’s very fast!
New/old coach at wheeling, we’ll see how that works out.

Yeah, unfortunately Caleb Courage swam a 23.7, but given that it was his 1st race since March I think a 24.2 bodes extremely well. It converts to a 20.8, equivalent to his time at NCAAs. Very exciting!

the WJU situation will take a few years to get going. Coach west is a recruiter, but you can’t make chicken soup out of chicken $hit.
If he get’s his budgets and scholarships back….look out, but don’t hold your breathe

I am going to assume that Wingate is going to be nasty on both sides, I know a couple kids that were added to the roster for the fall of 07 that would have made the meet for them at conference. I wonder if W&L can compete with the recruiting endeavors of Kirk…

what is going on with the other schools in terms of signees???

I didn’t expect to see anyone on here for another few months but I am happy to be wrong.

I heard so many rumors over the last few months but I guess they are not true because noone is mentioning them.

I don’t know how that all started though. Matej being an assistant coach at Wingate and his brother at Fairmont is the one.

Paul Mangen coming back to WJU as a coach which is obviously wrong.

Who is going to be coaching Salem?

btw I don’t know if you guys saw The Pride movie but I hated it.

      balki,

I watched the Pride movie, loved the sound track…I have watched a fair amount of baseball, football, basketball movies to say that even though its show biz, they are able to sell the movie while keeping the qualities of the sport visible. Its a tough sport to convey to outsiders, but the realism could have been better…

my guess is that the movie was not really about swimming, obviously, but rather to celebrate a black man’s accomplishments during a tough time. I do know people that competed regularly against that program and they have great things to say about it.

      the rumors:

I though Matej was on his way down to wingate, would have been a decent fit for him considering his status.

I do hope that Fairmont can continue to bring in international talent, something they’ve been able to do for many years. It has proven to add a great deal to the competitiveness in the conference meet.

I would assume that Keith would coach at Salem, but not that he’s the AD, and teaches a lot already…there isn’t enough coffee at starbucks that could keep even keith running to do all that.

Paul might not be coaching at WJU, however, you’ll probably see him at a couple meets now that Rick West is back.

In the pride movie they showed them doing underwater pullout and then above the water swimming freestyle.. that made me turn off the movie, lets get at least basics right. and they showed the coach swimming perfect freestyle sometimes and then the next length of the pool like a 10 year old kid..
As for the rumors, I don’t know where you got all that information.
There were some talks about it but nothing even remotely close to be done..

p.s. I am glad I made someone happy

      matej,

ammen brotha…I know I recommended you to kirk for a position that was available and there was talk about you moving to the carolina’s, so maybe some people tried to put two and two together?

Give us the inside scoop on FSU for next season….

Since when does D3 award athletic scholarships? Clarify your response as it gives wrong impression of the school and coach.

      They’re D2 – Bluegrass is a combined meet

That’s a pretty safe bet – they return 100% of their points and picked up some seriously fast recruits as well as some average guys that will probably improve a lot.

So, are we really counting out W&L that fast?
If CK is then how can we disagree.
It seems like last year they were flying at BGMC, I wonder if this year they get their cuts earlier and go slower at BGMC..
That pool is just giving them such a push though, I felt like I had the whole world against me, especially seating them behind the blocks!

I would never count them out, but I’m also not going to blow smoke up everybody’s @$$ and say that Wingate isn’t the early favorite. They return 551 individual points to W&L’s 441. Plus the Generals’ relays will probably take a big hit without Croushore, Ginder and Hayes. It’s going to take a whole lot of work for them to win #5 in a row.
