Someone asked if the Amherst 400 free relay swimmers were actually required to swim that event to maintain their eligiblity for the meet. I believe the answer is that all but Merz was required to swim that event. So, Amherst could have switched out Stern for Merz. Merz was having a fabulous meet and I can certainly understand the decision not to do so.
