To be fair, it only cost the team two places (at most). Amherst finished 9th with 121 points. CMS was 7th with 133. Stevens was 6th with 184. She would have been at least a 12 point difference, but putting her on two more prelim relays wasn’t going to earn 64 more points for 6th place. The only ones who should be upset are the 3-4 women who would have earned AA or HMAA if she would have at least done the prelim relay. I’m guessing Nichols rolled the dice figuring that they’d be 9-16 in prelims with or without Stern, was going to put her on the relay at night, and got burned twice.
