Men's 50

What do you predict for nationals? Who is going to shine, who is not?

Men's 50

The poll on the main page at the time of this post has
Fleming 8 votes (probably due to the high number of Kzoo visitors)
Somers 8 votes
The Field with 5 votes

Who from the field can win this thing? No one jumped out at me.
Frank: Look, I didn't go to Vietnam just to have pansies like you take my freedom away from me.
Dee: You went to Vietnam in 1993 to open up a sweatshop!
Frank: ...and a lot of good men died in that sweatshop!

I guess if the other two don't have a great race (i.e. bad start, miss the turn, bad finish) then someone else could potentially win. But I voted fleming. 20.18 on 3 days rest, unshaved, is absolutely stupid fast.

The real question is....can Fleming win the trifecta? 50, 100, 200 Free.

I have to agree that I am not sure anyone can keep up with Fleming and Somers. My sleepers for the race:

Spock - 20.6 at mid-season and I'm expecting big things from him at Nats.
Ramsey - Went a 20.8 at mid-season and with a good Kenyon taper I think he will slip in the top 8.

I am very curious to see how all of these young MIT sprinters do, they have SO much talent. How many guys can they get into the top 8? I'm thinking two, but who knows, the 50 is a crap shoot.
King James will be bringing his talents to D3Swimming.com

I want to throw MIT's Ubellacker (sp?) into the race. I'm fairly certain that he never tapered this season. He was 49.5 100 fly at his alumni meet at the beginning of the season, and dropped to a 49.1 at their invite, where typically they wear suits and taper. I am guessing that he only threw on a suit and didn't taper, since if you're swimming that fast in a speedo in October, you don't need much for nationals. And that means he was 20.6 unshaved/untapered in december. And the kid is HUGE. He's my sleeper.

IIRC? I dunno what that is.. but

In a dual meet vs Bowdoin/Babson...

1 Ubellacker, Wyatt 19 MIT 49.67
22.64 27.03

And..

Ubellacker, Wyatt 19 MIT 20.66 20.97

Certainly those weren't in anything other than a speedo or whatever..

Two things worth commenting in this: the IIRC comment by sagehen was funny. So it is worth finding out what he meant. 2nd, this is exactly why I think MIT will beat Emory. He had a few slower swims, but basically he swam like this all season. He should be on the top of the list of guys who could (but probably wont) win two individual events.
Thank you Mario! But our princess is in another castle!

^yes. Though I didn't know he was a 49 point and 20 point at a dual meet. That's impressive.
