WIAC at Schroeder Y in Brown Deer WI...

Thurs. AM prelims here:

Thoughts:

-- Point guys look good, save for Davy who struggled in his 200 IM, making consols at 15th.
-- UW-EC and UW-Lax women solid in two good events for them - 2IM and 500.
-- Guys 500 and 200 IM faster than last year.

Thurs. pm wrapup:

-- Point guys sweep 2Free (1:21.87) and 4medley (3:21.41) relays, with B cuts in both and just missing an A cut in the 2FRly.
-- Point's Joe Clapp takes 50 free(20.45) w/ ease, second year in a row, but just missing an A cut; Lax's Spencer Loch gets a B cut with a 2nd-place 20.91.
-- Point's Dekkers defends title in 500 free (4:40.47) in great race that sees top four finishers finish within 8/10ths of a second of each other. Twelve of 16 finalists in 500 this year were freshmen/sophomores.
-- UW-EC's Card has most impressive swim of the night, taking 2IM (1:51.21) by 2.7 seconds and getting an A cut by .01. UW-O's Dalton Anderson gets a B cut with 1:53.89. Conference record for Card.
-- UW-O's Phil Devine wins 3-meter boards 4th year in a row.
-- Point men lead with 272, Lax 2nd with 236, and Whitewater and UWEC close for 3rd.

-- Point women take 2Free Relay (1:35.22) in very close race w/ LAX (1:35.77) and UWEC (1:35.92) that sees all three top relays get B cuts.
-- UWEC's Julia Olson in 50 free (23.79-B cut) and Angie Bakula in 500 free (5:06.65) take titles, Olson for the second year in a row.
-- Lax's Ellingson takes 200IM with conference record and B-cut time of 2:05.41.
-- LAx takes 4medley over UWEC (3:49.52 to 3:53.51) as both relays earn B cuts.
-- UWEC women lead with 236 points, Lax with 217, Point with 179.

2nd day of WIAC, prelims session:

-- UW-EC and UW-Lax women continue to duke it out. UWEC has a very good 4IM with 4 up, 2 down for finals. Senior Nicole Dorvinen cranks out a B time in prelims to lead qualifiers. Lax is 2 up, 1 down.
-- Lax has great 1Fly session, nabbing top three seeds for finals and two B cuts. They are 4 up for tonight. UWEC 1 up 1 down for tonight; Point 3 up, 1 down.
-- 2Free prelims close between the two team leaders -- UWEC 4 up 1 down, but Lax is 3 up 1 down with seeds 1, 3, and 4 for tonight. Point 1 up 3 down for tonight.
-- Point 4 up, 1 down in 1breaststroke; Lax 3 up, 1 down; UWEC 2 down. LAx's Ellingson, who is having a very good meet, just misses an A cut in prelims. Frosh Cassie Matthys gets B cut for Point.
-- Lax 2 up 2 down in 1back; UWEC 1 up 1 down. This should be a very good race tonight between Lax frosh Brooke Reynolds and UWEC junior Sara Eggebrecht'; both had B cuts in prelims and could get close to an A cut tonight.

-- Point continues to dominate men's competition...
-- Point 4 up in 4IM; Whitewater's John Devroy leads qualifiers with a B cut time in prelims.
-- Point's Davy and Farmer lead qualifiers in 1Fly, and joined by UWO's Dalton Anderson in getting B cuts in prelims; this sets up as one of the better races of the evening session.
-- Point's Luuk Dekkers, fresh off his 500 free win last night, leads qualifiers in 2Free.
-- UWEC's Alex Card, having a very solid meet, and Point's Alex Loftus get B cuts in the 1breaststroke to lead qualifiers; both are in range for an A cut tonight.
-- Clapp of Point dominates 1back, posting a B-cut time and leading qualifiers by 1+ second.

One more note: 800 free relay shaping up as one of the better relay contests of the meet, as Point, Lax, Whitwater and UWEC all expected to filed solid teams for this. Davy and Farmer likely to swim it for Point, along with Dekkers.
