NCAC 2014

Stoked? I know I am.

Anyone have any info they feel like sharing, or thoughts about the athletes for this coming meet?

I will be curious to see how the times shake out in the new Denison Pool. I'm sure the spectators will appreciate the move from CT Brannin in Canton, and hopefully the swimmers will be happy.

I'm interested to see how some of the Ladies swim. A few of their key players from last year did not look strong at the mid-season invite, if they get back down to their previous times the Ladies will be looking very strong heading into NCAAs. Denison has been looking great all year, if the kick it up a notch watch out Emory.

This weekend and next weekend will basically determine who wins the NCAA Championship on the men's side. Has Denison developed enough depth swimmers (or divers) to make up for their apparent loss of Sean Chabot? Will a few more Lords step into scoring positions for NCAA's and "lock it up"?

I'll be honest, I'm not as familiar with the rest of the teams except DePauw, but I don't see any other schools taking the 3rd place spot on either side. Casey Hooker will be a forced to be reckoned with, like always.

I think it's pretty great that the meet has been moved from CT Branin.

I am also happy the meet will be streamed for free... didn't they try to make it a pay-to-watch event a few years ago?

I think we all know that a bunch of people won't be tapered for this meet, but it seems that there are a few great swims every year.

Can anyone knowledgeable in diving illuminate how Denison's divers stack up at the NCAA level?

As far as I remember from last year, Lewis won the 1 meter diving at NCAAs. Dignan may have scored; I can't recall off the top of my head. I don't think the women have any divers that went to/scored at NCAAs last year. That 1-6 placing by the DU divers is crazy, though....

Not too much else that caught my eye looking over the results. That girl from DePauw in the 500: Angela Newlon. 5:53 is pretty quick for a morning swim. Wonder if she'll go faster tonight?

The men's 200 IM was pretty nifty - three guys under the NCAC record.

Can't wait to see how the men's 500 shakes out - a pack of Kenyonites led by a freshman, and Al Weik at the bottom of the top nine (weird, to have a top nine). Wonder if Weik will shake things up tonight or what.

There were 5 swimmers who were under 4:40 and not on a scoring roster, pretty insane.

Is the scoring going to be different than normal since they are running 9 lanes?

I asked a coaching friend of mine - she said the scoring will remain the same, with the few additional entries not picking up points from the C final. It'll get pretty cut throat not to be the last one to the wall under those circumstances!

How does that work with 9th/18th place? Will they be scored in the B final, or does the 9th seed automatically scored in the B heat?
Shoot from the hip, ask questions later.

NCAA Rule 7-8-7 allows more than 24 competitors to score.

Based on the Men's Diving Results, Individual Event scoring should be:

A Final

1 - 35
2 - 31
3 - 30
4 - 29
5 - 28
6 - 27
7 - 26
8 - 25
9 - 24

B Final

10 - 22
11 - 19
12 - 18
13 - 17
14 - 16
15 - 15
16 - 14
17 - 13
18 - 12

19 - 10
20 - 8
21 - 7
22 - 6
23 - 5
24 - 4
25 - 3
26 - 2
27 - 1

Relays are double the Individual events.

Once the first finals event is completed, it should have the scoring on Live Results to verify.

SO....that was interesting. Freaking fast 500 out of Newlon. New Kenyon record from Williamson...unrested. That'll be disgustingly fast come NCAAs.

Obviously Purple biased, but loved that 1-2-3 in the men's 500. Seaver was so calm. And it's fun watching Guilfoyle make his move at the end there, too. Hooker looked like he died a little bit... Out with Seaver and then finished up 9th. Weik powered home in a 26.3 after a bunch of 28s - something tells me he's got more gas in the tank.

1-2 for DU men in that 200 IM separated by .01 - neat race there. 1-2 for DU women as well, with Yarosh in third (who knew she was an IMer???). Lugg's breaststroke leg was sick - everyone else looked like they were standing still!

Tons of Lords in the 50 - no one under 20. I feel spoiled by years with Turk, Somers, Richardson, Ramsey, ISB... All the past now, I guess.

Great to see Cline get up and own that 50 of hers. Great Lady, and awesome to see her take top honors!

Crazy good relay race for the men's 400. Close the whole way, and so pleased (and pleasantly surprised) to see the team crack the NCAC record set last year by the studs who owned at NCAAs. Some serious action on the women's side too - 1:02.0 was faster than Kaestner was at NCAAs, I think.

Zarka with the pool record in women's 3m diving. Also kudos to Remillard who started diving LAST YEAR and has put in serious effort to be in scoring position for the Ladies. Also on diving - Allegheny has a LOT of divers. Just sayin'.

The 400 MR should be great at nationals, with Rosenburg "only" splitting a 54.5. Good chance for both teams to go under the existing record, I would think.

I'm not that familiar with the league - what is the logic of Kenyon not using Arthur Conover in an official event? He exhibitioned 1:42 / 4:31 freestyles and 4:03 IM?

Just going out on a limb here, but there are two possibilities - either Conover wasn't expected to do as well as he has done and "stepped it up" in typical Kenyon fashion.... OR there was someone for the 18 roster who was projected to score more points in respective events.

Arthur Conover swims events that Kenyon is loaded in right now. Normally he would not swim the 200 freestyle, he would swim the 1650 where he was 15:22 at the TPSC Invite this year. He swam the 200 free and 400 IM to probably see which was a better 3rd event for him come NCAA Championships. I would guess he was part of their group that is taking a lighter rest for the NCAC Championships.

They could have used him, but it might have been at the expense of pushing other Kenyon swimmers out of scoring positions in those events.

Another notable exhibitioned Kenyon freshman was Oscar Anderson. 50.1 and 1:50.8 in the backstrokes.
