Wheaton's Return

Post by stokes » Tue Dec 08, 2009 11:10 pm

Wow, leave the country for a couple of months and look what happens - suits are banned, coed meet again, and judging from the weekend invites Wheaton is back. Not the depth of years before, but looks like Coach Lederhouse has the top guys firing on all cylinders. Not sure what's up with Carthage, but with Schranck, Davis, Pelka and Bax gone, I predict Thunder storms back to win the medleys, and maybe 200 free relays. With a little luck (another a relay DQ maybe) and Wheaton could restore order to the CCIW.

I could def see this happening. Nitz had a great dec meet, and a filthy 25.2 split in the 50 breast in their 2 med. JT never even went that fast.

Andrew Painter is all over the place time wise, just like last year (looks like he didn't taper for invite)... if he can get down to about 53.0 again (or faster hopefully) in the 100 backstroke, they are going to have two very good medleys. 200/400 free relays... need sprinters. The girls team looks good!

Don't know about beating Carthage, haven't really seen their results this year.

Looked like quite a fun Invite with quality D3 swimming from Hope, UWP, Wash U and Wheaton.

Wheaton swam GREAT at the Quad meet... looks like they are finally in shape. Going to be a fun meet against Carthage next week and at Conference!

Yeah they really did. I have always expected huge things from Gallagher, so maybe this is the year.

Are we going to see any relays from the CCIW making it to Nats?

I see Wheaton's medleys right on the bubble, hopefully on the inside. 200 and 400 freestyle relays will be solid, but they don't have the firepower to crack those yet.

Anyone else (Carthage)? I don't see it from them this year, but I could be way off.

Wheaton's medlies have a shot, but I think they will probably be on the outside looking in. I am thinking no for Carthage, but who knows

I'm expecting big things from Wheaton. It sounds like they are HUNGRY and without the new suits they should qualify their medleys and 200 free relay. I thought it interesting that they now have a diver. Is this a ploy to get easy points? Earhart should have taken his non scorers and thrown them in.

As it is Wheaton and IWU can almost match Carthage man-for-man on the top end but not on depth. Fighure that enough Augie, Rose and Millikin guys to knock Wheaton's bottom few guys out and that gives Carthage a win.

Nationally Wheaton gets at minimum their medleys and prrobably 200 free relay-that gives them six guys. I think Firth finaly makes it (and Kozak of course). Betzle doesn't look like much but he never does before the meet. In Carthage's pool I can see him making the mile. Carthage gets Drake and zero relays into the meet.

Welcome back stokes! I'm glad someone else is joining 5599 and me in the corner of a Wheaton/NCC party to talk shop. : D

I like your analysis. I think Wheaton's depth is going to surprise you - guys like Chris Sveen who has hardly swum this year, but was 4:40/16:15 last year in HS, and Hal Hackett who I think will push for a finals slot in the 100 fly. On the flip side, I don't think they'll get the 200 FR in.

Yeah - the diver is funny isn't it? Coach has always had a policy to let a diver dive if they want to - but he doesn't seek out or really even encourage it at all... he definitely wouldn't let someone who wasn't a diver dive.

On Carthage - only Drake getting into the meet? Could be.

I'm gettin' excited!

I would think that if Schranck goes 49 mid in the 1 fly he might get in. As for Wheaton's 2 FR I am doubting it as well. On the women's side Katie Stratton is at NCC now. I am pretty sure she has PR's in the 200 IM and 1 breast at about 2:05 mid and 1:04 plus, Should be interesting to see how she does.

For whatever reason I think this is Gallagher's year. He was 51.1 in the 1 fly as a HS junior. Hoping for a big one from him.

Drake should be around 1:50 in the 2 Back

Previous to last year I could predict these things, but last year threw everything off. I would think 49.7 would put him in, but I am not 100 percent sure.

Not getting the results is driving me nuts. Does anyone have them?
