Re: Teleology of Swimming

I want to posit a theory. I think the internet has been amazing for swimming. Purely from the vantage point of disseminating information about how other people are doing. How many 19. high school 50 freestyles did we see this year? I do think that seeing others do it made subsequent swims more likel...

Re: No love from SwimSwam

Ben,

I can try but it's not helping that there are crickets after every post there. Take the d3 conversation there (and here).

Re: Emory - US NEWS Rankings

I like the Forbes list a lot more than US News. Now, let me get my bias out of the way first thing: Colby fares MUCH better in the Forbes ranking (top 20*! even when ranked alongside the schools US News puts in the "National University" category). Colby isn't even in the top 20 US News for liberal a...

Re: Breaststroke Problems...again

I think that until underwater officiating becomes the norm, breaststroke will continue to be the wild west. Of course many of us believe that we can see these infractions from the pool deck but good officials are trained to only make a call when they are certain an infraction take place. It is reall...

Re: Future of USA Swimming

I've been concerned about this as well because its hard to think of any US 18-22 year old that is the best in the world in his particular event for that age range. Our best swimmers in that age range are probably Kevin Cordes (18, 19 soon i think, and the still under 18 Ryan Murphy/Jack Conger. Thos...

Re: The biggest question going into the Olympics...

Swimswam has pdf results after each session has concluded that include the info you are looking for. If something better existed chances are they would find it.

Re: Wesleyan Coach?

No one should worry about the air quality at Wesleyan, at least in a NESCAC context. There are far fewer bodies on and in the pool for a NESCAC meet than the CT summer meet.

Re: The biggest question going into the Olympics...

I'll go against the tide here and say that Lochte should DEFINITELY be on the relay. I don't think you are going against the tide, other than your being so definitive. I don't have a problem with Lochte being on the relay if noone puts up a 47.8 or flat start equivalent in prelims. So where we disa...

Re: The biggest question going into the Olympics...

I'll go against the tide here and say that Lochte should DEFINITELY be on the relay. I thought it was stupid that they made him swim his way out of the heats in Shanghai last year. I'm not a huge Lochte fan but I can't deny that he has a pretty good track record over these last few years of only get...

Re: Qualification Changes

Because the loophole being exposed here is that the NCAA is already allowing "relay only alternates" to be paid for by schools individually. The sentiment is that the NCAA would be kill the whole proposal if we asked for these "relay only" people to swim some other vents. Also, with the individual q...

Re: Qualification Changes

Guys, just let me clear up a few things that have been mentioned here. The sentiment among coaches (and mid major D1 schools were proportionately represented) was that this will not be a budget issue. Many believed sincerely that their ADs would support them to get a relay to the meet, and changing ...

Silentp- how could you not have faith in me? Second on Steve Barnes- he knows his shit and works hard. I'm going to stretch the rules on age/division a bit and throw another few names at you: Jesup Szatkowski (most recently at Dartmouth), Washington and Lee 2000. Jesup did an awesome job with what w...

Re: Official Olympic Trial List

USA Swimming wants this meet to be big for several reasons: 1. They make a lot of money from the huge national meets. Part of that is through meet entry fees. Also, remember they have sponsors like Marriott so I assume they get some form of kickbacks if they have a lot of people gobbling up Marriott...

Re: Wesleyan Coach?

Yes I am hoping she was joking as well. In case she wasn't, my comment had nothing to do with the effort of the Wesleyan swimmers, it had to do with their placing within the NESCAC. Given their facility and relative academic stature, I think Wesleyan should consistently 5th-6th in the league. If the...
