D3Swimming.com has named Emory’s Ollie Smith its Athlete of the Week in men’s swimming and diving for meets through November 14th.
Smith, a sophomore from Milan, Michigan finished second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of :20.51, in a 86.5-180.5 setback against the University of Georgia this Saturday. He also swam a :20.00 split in Emory‘s event winning 200 freestyle relay and touched at :47.02 in the 100 free.
As a freshmen, Smith finished 12th in the 50-yard freestyle (:20.37) at the 2015 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships in Shenandoah, Texas.
Smith is being honored as Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career.
On the women’s side, D3Swimming.com has named Wheaton’s (Illnois) Kirsty Nitz its Athlete of the Week for meets through November 14th.
The senior from Frankfort, Kentucky won both the 100 and 200 yard backstrokes with times of :56.55 and 2:04.65 in the Thunder’s 137-161 loss to Calvin College on Saturday. Nitz now owns the top time in the country in both backstroke events. She also swam a :51.59 split in Wheaton‘s 400 freestyle relay and led off their 200 medley relay with a :26.21.
Nitz finished 3rd in the 200-yard butterfly (2:00.47) at the 2015 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships in Shenandoah, Texas.
Nitz is also being honored as Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career.
