D3Swimming.com has named Amherst’s Emily Hyde its Athlete of the Week in women’s swimming and diving for meets through January 31st.

Hyde, a senior from Clinton, New York, took first place in two events on both Saturday and Sunday, leading Amherst to a victory over MIT on Saturday and Springfield on Sunday. Hyde won both breaststroke events in both meets, posting top times of 1:04.88 in the 100 and 2:18.79 in the 200. It’s also important to note that she has not lost a race this season.

Last season, Hyde finished third in the 200 Breast and 200 IM, and was national runner-up in the 100 Breast a at the 2015 NCAA Championships.

Hyde is being honored as Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career.

 

D3Swimming.com has named Washington and Lee’s Tommy Thetford its Athlete of the Week in men’s swimming and diving for meets through January 31st.

The sophomore from Birmingham, Alabama, was the Generals’ top finisher in both of his individual events in the meet against the Virginia Military Institute on Saturday. Thetford’s :20.10 in the 50 free was definitely his most impressive swim, that’s good for the second fastest time in the country. He also threw down a :45.49 in the 100 Free, which gives him at the 21st fastest time in this event.

Thetford placed 4th in the 50 Free and 5th in the 100 Free at last year’s NCAA Championships. Keep in mind he placed 4th with a :20.17, going :20.10 in prelims.

Thetford is being honored as Athlete of the Week for the second time in his career.
