WIAC
there were seriously 40 people from the WIAC 'chatting' on the live video page of ncaas. seems sad that there aren't more posts here.
i remember some guy, alex plaetzer maybe and some dude with a name like malalalalalalalalda who i know aren't openwater.
at the very least, the uwec guys owe us all an explanation of what the heck a blugold is

Re: WIAC
I agree - there were 27 swimmers and 4 divers from 4 different UW schools competing at the meet. Hard to believe that ice fishing and snowmobiling is so all consuming on those campuses that no one cares enough about some very accomplished swimming programs to trade smack talk here with a bunch extremely knowledgeable experts. You would think that our other state sport, drinking, would facilitate such in-depth conversations.
Once a competitive swimmer, you can become anything.
Re: WIAC
Garrett Running is going to UW Lax next yr.
Lax was disappointing at conference.
The packers won the super bowl.
Governor Walker started protests.
Why did the WIAC have their conference meet in MINNESOTA last year?

Re: WIAC
The Blugolds are on the rise. What do you want to know?
Regarding Conference being held in Minnesota, UWRF was the host. They host the Falcon Invite at the University of Minnesota every December, thus they were able to host our Conference meet at the U of M. I believe Conference will be hosted at the U of M again next year.
UWEC had a stellar taper. The women finished 3rd at Conference, but handily beat out the WIAC at Nationals finishing in 16th place; UWL was 29th, UWSP was 33rd). The women produced 14 All-Americans; including one First-Teamer.
The men shocked the entire Conference, finishing 2nd in front of UWL and UWW.

Re: WIAC
I'm going to go with a no on this. 3 pretty solid recruits are already going to UW LAX....Streater (see above), Running (49.2/144/454) and Erich Schnell (21.5/48). UWEC loses Dahl, Paradise and Mehring. I have a tough time seeing UWEC matching Streater and/or Schnell....Running really only has a good 200.TheBlugold wrote:The Blugolds are on the rise.
Was beating UWW really that "shocking"?TheBlugold wrote:The men shocked the entire Conference, finishing 2nd in front of UWL and UWW.

Re: WIAC
UWEC does take tough losses with the departure of our Senior class; Dahl put up some fantastic relay splits (20.34 on the 2F.R., 46.06 on the 4M.R), Paradise was a rock solid distance swimmer, Mehring was a great sprint/distance mix and Macalalad was also a damn good distance swimmer but had major back problems this season which was unfortunate to have during his senior season.Nashland wrote:I'm going to go with a no on this. 3 pretty solid recruits are already going to UW LAX....Streater (see above), Running (49.2/144/454) and Erich Schnell (21.5/48). However, we have a VERY strong freshman class.
Card 3rd-2IM, 2nd-1BR, 1st-2BR
Epperly 5th-500, 9th-200, 5th-1650
Lickel 8th-2IM, 10th-1FLY, 13th-100
Strom - 7th-4IM; 9th-1BR, 8th-2BR
Rose 16th-1FLY, 14th-2FLY, 14th-1650 (having never swam the race before and being a flyer)
Greene 16th- 50, 14th-100, 14th-200;
Birkeli 14th-2BA
We are picking up a diver transfer from UW-Milwaukee, and a swimmer transfer from within the WIAC.
Additionally, we look to have a very strong freshman class incoming, I don't have anything exact at the moment, but I'll post when I have the details.
Regarding the other point, considering UWEC was 4th for the past 3 years, moving up to second is quite impressive. Perhaps, beating UWW wasn't "shocking", but beating UWL was. No one expected UWEC to finish 2nd at Conference this year, that is a fact.
Re: WIAC
UWW
Derek Schieble- 54/159 fly, 151/457 free, 205 IM
UWSP
Nate Briguet- 22.1/48.3/147.1

If I were a Blugold alum, this would have me feeling very secured.TheBlugold wrote: Additionally, we look to have a very strong freshman class incoming, I don't have anything exact at the moment, but I'll post when I have the details.

Chapel had McDade going to UST. I believe you because you have the red thing for a name (just pointing out there is a contradiction).silentp wrote:Here is what I know...

Hanko is a tremondous pick up for Lax. 153 2back? This is is the kind of recruiting class that could maybe start a string of recruiting classes for Lax to make a run at Point. Although last years class was pretty sub par, so they will need another 2 or 3 like this to make it close.

Re: WIAC
Lax roster up. Here are some we didn't get already...
Ryan Conaghan- 22.1r/49.0r/152
Christian Kaminisi- 55.8 back
Sam Wiedemeir- 21.1r/21.7, 53.5 back
Justin bublitz- 11th at MN hs state (diver)
Lax really loaded up on the backstroke. Two 53s to go along w/ Bietz and Miesner's 53s. If Kaminiski can go a 54 low, they could have 5 guys in the top 8.
