Coaching Turnover

Coaching Turnover

Postby stokes » Sat Jul 12, 2008 12:03 am

Good grief - three CCIW schools - Millikin, Carthage and Augie - looking for coaches. Last year wasn't it Millikin, and Augie and the year before that Millikin, North Central, Augie.

Augie's problem is that its a part-time position. Since the Dave Thomas era, they have not had consistent coaching. Millikin's entire athletic department is in constant turnover. Decatur's declining economy has contributed heavily to that. North Central has been unstable his Dennis Ryan's medical issue.

Would Carthage combine the Men and Women? If they can afford two coaches you'd think Augie could afford one.

I would be shocked if Carthage combined their team. Anyone know of anyone that applied for the women's job at Carthage? I am assuming Korman would probably put her name in the hat. The CCIW is all over the place in terms of their teams. THere was a time when this conf was a real power in swimming. I would love to see that happen again. Next to impossible to do without a lot of support from the athletic dept, and lets be honest the facilities really need to improve.

I think that's a confirmation that it will NOT be happening

Brings up a legit question -- how much benefit is there to a seperate men's & women's coach? or is there benefit to both teams training together?
I should be playing water polo.

It depends, some of the best teams in the history of this sport had combined programs. Arizona and Auburn. It can work both ways.

Ya I heard that Stanford and Texas are pretty good too.

Think it makes it tougher to get a coach when other schools are looking too? Which would be the best jobs in order of pref?

Carthage
Lake Forest
Augustana
Pomona
Austin

Whaddya think? I'm sure some of you guys have applied to each.

The Carthage job is the best of the ones posted above. They have the best facility.

Is that an advantage? Seems from above he wants nothing to do with the women's team.
