Re: Good Old NCAA

I believe the current NCAA record relay had a sub 24 split from Collin Ohning.

Re: Good Old NCAA

Meet Mobile was working in real time for me. The 500 prelims were flying this year after a couple of years with poor depth after 2009. The times have finally gotten back down there on the men's side. Remember that on the women's side a 4:57 could win around 8 years ago. All around the meet is shapin...

Re: January 17 and 18 Meets

Regarding the # of swims an individual is allowed at a dual meet: A short order of events (without 200 of strokes) has different rules than long order (includes 200 of strokes). For short order, an individual can swim a maximum of 3 events in any combination of relay and individual events. For long ...

Re: Midseason Projections

Which NESCAC schools are going to break into the top 10 that aren't reflected since they don't rest mid-season? Conn and Williams? Will Williams be able to shoot for a top 5? Emory men have a couple of frosh sprinters that came in with very good times, we'll see if they can narrow that predicted gap...

Re: Nats 2014

I think the main issue regarding divers being counted as 1/3 of a swimmer is this: The only point of having a team cap is to make sure a team doesn't have too many scoring opportunities. It's meant to put teams on a (relatively) equal playing field. The team cap is probably the only reason the Emor...

Re: Nats 2014

There are no relays for divers which is why they are only 1/3 of a swimmer. In D1 there are 3 diving events (platform has been added) and a diver is 1/2 of a swimmer. It amazes me to see the D3 posts which denigrate teams which score points in diving as if the D3 National Championship trophy only h...

Re: Nats 2014

I'm glad everyone was able to work things out :D . I was getting scared for a minute  On a somewhat unrelated topic, the NLRB ruled that Northwestern athletes are considered workers and can unionize. I think it will take a while, but this could have some pretty big ramifications. I don't know...

Re: Nats 2014

MDswimparent, I will give you the benefit of the doubt and apologize for putting words in your mouth, but please try and understand that posts are read in the context of the thread, not as their own little bites of info. You responded to a poster who was clearly not trying to say that all transfers ...

Re: Five relay wins by same team

I can end this discussion really quickly: In 1998 Kenyon's 200 free relay didn't have a guy who finished lower than 2nd in the 50 on it. And yes, all 4 guys swam the 50. That is pretty cool. Did any of them break the 50 record that year? Was it a tie for first and a tie for second, or was it a thre...

Re: Nats 2014

Oh sweet jesus, here goes a dick waving contest about academics, huh? So MDswimparent, you're implying that Kenyon's transfers aren't up to snuff academically to gain admittance to one of the schools you mentioned. Would you like to support that claim? The differences between the top academic school...

Re: Five relay wins by same team

Here's a fun question: What D3 team would have the best 4x(whatever event) relay ever? Denison backstroke from 2011? If I recall correctly didn't they have two guys go under the previous record at some point that season as well as a couple others in the top 8 at NCAAs? I think we'd have to look at ...

Re: Five relay wins by same team

No, probably not. They already won the relays, not much room for more points there. They scored 387 points, minus 200 points for the five relay wins and that is 187 points in individual events. If we clone all of their individual point scorers and they score another 187 points, that's still only 57...

Re: Nats 2014

I've been at several meets where fire alarms went off. It happens. I think a more likely theory involves Russian KGB operatives pulling the fire alarm in retaliation for the vacating of Staten Island's titles. I hear Putin is a big D3 swimming fan. Maybe Hannah Saiz did it so she could catch up on h...

Re: Five relay wins by same team

What could also be pretty interesting is that - if you look at the past few years - the average relay placing is usually also where a championship team finishes. Just food for thought. Multiply Kitayama, Rinsma, Brown and Ternes by two... Give 'em a solid breaststroker or two... Could they have tak...

Re: Nats 2014

Very interesting 200 medley with Denison sliding from 4th seed to at best 9th place now. They gained huge ground in the 200 IM but the relay sets that back again, 12 or 14 points gone from their seeded position (what do 9th placed relays score again?). JHU also with a very significant DQ for the tea...
