Re: 2018-19 Season

I'm going to start off by saying that Grove City's men were much faster than I expected. Most notably, Hoselton's 50 and 100 back were really impressive. I also expected Westminster's men to be faster, but this is a weird time of year anyway, and we have no idea of knowing how the weather impacted t...

twitter feed

I'm assuming the new @DIIISwimDive is associated with this site - fantastic coverage over the past weekend! I don't get on here very much anymore, the twitter feed was a great way to reconnect. Looking forward to more coverage from NCAAs!

Re: NCAA 2017

Thanks for the response....but I don't understand your answer. Are you saying........the same 4 relay swimmers at NESCACs must swim in the morning at NCAAs. Then...if the relay swims in the evening finals, the coach can install any swimmer? Exactly. Whoever qualified the relay has to swim on that r...

Re: 2017 NCAAs

DI & DII are not inviting relays anymore. They are only inviting individuals and you would need to form a relay out of the people that have been individually invited to NCAAs. They have the option to bring additional swimmers to fill out relays, but that would be at the schools expense. I appreciat...

Re: 2017 NCAAs

It would be insane if it only went to line 12... there would be some very pissed off people and a call for a drastic change in the selection rules. What change to the selection rules would you make? If it only went to line 12 of the individuals the relays would only be at line 13 at most. The only ...

Re: 2017 NCAAs

I know how the process works. I was demonstrating how ridiculous it was to say the individual line was only going to get to 11. Sorry, maybe I should have quoted Nigel Tufnel instead.

Re: 2017 NCAAs

But that wouldn't have impacted the relays going to 16. I don't think the individual line has been under 15 since they started this new process.

Re: 2017 NCAAs

Do you happen to recall when "Step 5" entered the selection criteria? Is it new? I seem to recall in the (recent?) past that, after all A-cuts were entered (and now, the very few A-cut entries), the NCAA then added 16 relays--period. After that, the line fell across the individual events until hitt...

Re: 2017 NCAAs

I was under the impression they did the 16 relays first then did the individuals - not that it matters when the A cuts are so fast. The other thing is that the relay names are based on who they used to come up with the time. As far as entries go a person can be entered in 8 (5 relays/3 individuals) ...

Re: If Wilson Returns, Will Emory Win Nationals?

Interesting question - just a little more analysis to consider: First the losses: Emory only graduated one (of 12) guys from their national team - he only scored 6 points and didn't contribute to any relays Denison graduates 6 (of 20) who contributed a total of 106 points and 9 relay legs (including...

Re: Five relay wins by same team

Couldn't remember the year for Denison's backstroke group. I thought Somers' time leading off the 400 relay at NCAAs that year would have been under the old record as well - I think Turk and Somers own the top two times in the history of the event and they're both from that meet.

Denison backstroke from 2011? If I recall correctly didn't they have two guys go under the previous record at some point that season as well as a couple others in the top 8 at NCAAs?

Re: History of Swimming & Diving

If there were fewer schools, but those schools were dedicated to a quality diving program with a larger roster and the best coaches, would that be a disaster for diving? Yes - having fewer schools would drive up costs to attend competition which would lead to the inevitable spiral of cutting more t...
