Re: Andrew Wilson Wins USA Nats 100 breaststroke

On the women's side Lindsey Payne finaled in 100 breast at Olympic Trials in 2008. Michelle Engelsman swam for Kenyon for a year. A few years later she made 2004 Olympics for Australia and finished 6th in the 50 free finals. So 6th at Olympics is top international performance from a D3 swimmer (that...

Re: I always thought James Born would be the best D3 swimmer

Turk was a 21.18 swimmer coming out of high school. So his D3 record of 19.38 is a 9.92% improvement from a decent high school time to a now 3 year old record. Andrew Wilson has now gone from being an OK high school 100 Breast at 59.8 to a remarkable 51.72, an improvement of nearly 13%. I think tha...

Annnd then dropped it 2 more seconds. He was named male swimmer of the meet. What an extraordinary set of performances! Sarah Thompson, after breaking Caroline Wilson's 1650 national record, was named the female swimmer of the meet, and Steve Kuster, the WMS coach, was name coach of the year for gu...

Re: recruiting from a coaches perspective

Recruiting is the number one most important thing that will determine a college team's success. It has to be approached that seriously, as if it is your first responsibility as a job. How you do it will have a lot to do with what institution you're at, as you want to spend your energy on STUDENTS yo...

Re: Olivet Coach

I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING,

but she was an asst at St Thomas for a few years before she took job at Olivet. Hodgson retired this year, so that could be a clue. I assumed UST was going to promote their current assistant. I don't know anybody there, this was just all outside guesses.

Re: Conference Predictions?

Pretty sure it comes from here, though the spelling is a bit different:

I always thought it'd have been cooler if they followed the lead of much of the rest of the conference and were the Hamline Hammies

Re: Freshman Guys

One thing to factor into the equation. I heard Swan Westby is no longer on campus and Jake Goll is not swimming this year. Checking the Olaf roster that seems to be true. Did you factor that into your crystal ball? Nope, but I edited it to reflect new information. Also those new Hamline guys looked...

Re: Freshman Guys

That is a big boost for Hamline. They won't jump into the top five just yet, but one good swimmer that can score in 3 events, maybe even final in a few, and boost some relays is really all it takes to distance themselves from Mac and SMU

Re: UST: More points, less fast

That's interesting and surprising. The only hiccup I can see is what if a season best time did not happen in the night swim at MIAC? What if they are still improving, but have a higher percentage of season-best performances in a mid-season shave meet (not sure they do this), prelims of MIACs, or at ...

Re: Any news on Alma?

One thing working in favor of swimming, is that most Head Coaches are also Aquatics Directors for the colleges. You can hire somebody in the 40k range that will run your pool and coach 2 teams. If you drop the sports but still want to keep the pool open for the campus community, you have to add that...

Re: Any news on Alma?

Why would dropping the programs be on the table? That doesn't make sense. Because that's what some schools do these days with non-revenue sports. I'm not sure that just having an open coaching search would bring it on, but it's unrealistic to think that at some of the smaller schools with dated fac...
