Re: Natatorium Rankings

Not about rankings, but I wonder if (and hope that) Hope has a new pool in their master plans. Practically ever other Hope athletic team has had either a remodeled/restored or newly built facility over the past 15 years or so. What improvements have occurred at Kresge? Is the sauna still broken? Hey...

Re: Kalamazoo NCAA Infractions

While that's an interesting story, what we really should care about is whether or not this had any impact on athletics recruiting/retention at Kzoo. What no one is really talking about is that this error had exactly ZERO appreciable impact; on average, Kalamazoo student athletes received LESS finan...

Re: Kalamazoo NCAA Infractions

Anyways, just food for thought. There seems to be a lot of speculation swirling around. I am curious though, has any other dIII program ever seen such sanctions from the NCAA? I've never heard of such a thing. pp. 6-7 of the report: "The institution acknowledged that the committee has consistently ...

Re: Kalamazoo NCAA Infractions

To suggest that this was just the baseball coach seems fishy, and to make comments such as Guess not? Disappointed in K, that suggest that this did not happen rampantly throughout the MIAA seems totally bogus to me. F+ for reading comprehension Bee's Knees. Why did you cut off after the comma? And ...

Re: Kalamazoo NCAA Infractions

There were rumors about this back in the early 2000s back when I swam at Hope. I just imagined it was all bullshit.

Guess not? Disappointed in K, but I'm not naive enough to think that this doesn't happen at other schools as well.

Good luck to everyone cleaning this up - especially the athletes.

Re: Of all time...

After that, from a similar era there was a lesser known battle brewing. It didn't last as long and 'technically' they didn't swim head to head. But the Rob Knecht and Katie Nagelkirk time comparisons were always fun too! Rob vs. Nagelkirk. Greatest rivalry that the other person didn't know she was ...

Re: Final Grades

overall, props to hope's guys. they clearly weren't the most talented team, but i thought they stepped up and raced hard and got more out of what they did have than some of the other teams there. I haven't followed swimming much at all this year, so I just came across the results after the whole me...

I thought this story on Jeff Zita was relevant to the earlier discussion.

Nice job Jeff - you're living that liberal arts mission.

Re: '14-15 Rosters

That may be true in the business world, unfortunately that hasn't been the case in my experience with grad/med school. GPA and class grades are on the 1st page of applications and if you don't have 3.7+ with A's in related science courses the committee won't bother reading further to the 20th page ...

Re: '14-15 Rosters

I don't think you actually addressed anything I said. In summary: if you are trying to excel in a highly technical field it requires more time and effort than swimming will allow you... if you have high goals in the pool as well. This is true unless you are very gifted (and I am talking the type of...

Re: '14-15 Rosters

Nope. I stand by it. Being a successful athlete and a successful student simply are not mutually exclusive goals. There is a reason that even the chemical engineering major at Hope (which doesn't take 150 credits, that's crazy inaccurate) proudly displays on their website that their majors participa...

Re: '14-15 Rosters

I've heard rumors of Diener focusing on his studies but I'm sure better informed people can shed more light on that. Controversial opinion alert: I've always thought the idea that "focusing on studies" and being an athlete at the DIII level are mutually exclusive goals is a bunch of hooey. It's not...

Thanks for clearing that up. It all makes sense now. [sarcasm font]
