Re: How did the meet get so fast?

Honestly: Orstein's 200 IM record went down, records by Todhunter, Payne, Sasser that we all thought were bullet-proof or revolutionary just a short time ago were challenged or surpassed. The Junior Nationals observation is spot-on: there are tens of kids that are high school juniors and seniors who...

Re: Big 10s (and Turk)

What I think is cool is to echo what was said above. He became a major player for Michigan at the top levels. He made their team better. A few years ago, when Alex Sweet went to Louisville, he made that team better on the 200 FR. And, sure, Mulvihill and Born from Kenyon swam at D-I championships wh...

Re: NCAA Selection Committee Rule Changes?

BYoung, Now that I'm an outsider, I'd agree with you. But, I've been on the inside as a coach, and you know where that's been. So, I see it this way: many colleges would be thrilled to have swimmers qualify for NCAA's, and many could and would pay for any to go who might not get the travel stipend. ...

Re: Rick Curl

Cynically, I'm assuming he's pleading out to protect the other coaches. I hope he's pleading out because he's grown up, matured, and wants to spare Ms. Davies-Curran from having to recount some very personal and humiliating details. Somewhere in the middle is the idea he's pleading out so he doesn't...

^^^ also knows that UChicago still has a 20 y pool "on campus." Sunny Gym at the Lab School. That's why they swam meets at Ratner.

Re: Survey about a new pair of revolutionary goggles

I'd imagine that more complex goggles are going to be hard to manage for kids.

Re: early meets

I'd say the Emory women are always favored. A quick conversation with Jon last year at Alumni Weekend indicated that they knew pretty much at the beginning of the year that they'd win big. What is astounding is that they could have had a second top-10 team with that same roster. [ Post made via iPad...

Re: Survey about a new pair of revolutionary goggles

Good luck with this research. However, I might add the following: goggles are a commodity. They are a commodity exactly because they were historically introduced to be inexpensive and effective. New designs come out every year, but an economics lesson shows that the simple designs and functionality,...

Re: Z.Turk Michigan

Didn't Turk come down with mononucleosis last year during some point of the season? I'd imagine that staying clear of illness this season will be a good thing. Not that his championships last year were bad, or anything. So I guess we start to imagine two things: 1) would there have been a difference...

Dual vs Minnesota, 20.14 and 44.77 (lead). Those would have got him 3rd and 5th, respectively, in prelims last year. 19.3 split, also.

Re: Rick Curl

Adults did confront various coaches affiliated with the program, all who said something along the lines of "rumors are rumors." I find it hard to believe they didn't know. If the rumor swirled for a while, I imagine there is no way a coach could have ignored it. Within or outside the club. Which bri...

Re: Rick Curl

Additionally, the Davies family read the journal AFTER Kelly departed for college, after under-performing at OT 1988. She did not swim for Curl after the discovery of the journal. Read the Washington Post articles that discuss allegations she made of his staying overnight at her house. She also says...
