Re: Favorite Competition Pool

My favorite unique facility is Lakeside Swim Club in Louisville, KY. It's a lake built inside a quarry, with a 10-lane 50m pool marked off by two concrete piers. Incredible. I swam a masters meet there, then had a barbecue with my future in-laws after the meet, right inside the quarry. if i remembe...

Re: NCAA 2013

Big question: Is this the first year in a while that neither favorite will be from either Kenyon nor Denison?

Re: Slowest Men's DIII record

Depth of the field in 200 free's make that one not all that fast. The 800 free relays Denison has put together have been so competitive compared with DI you would think that a 1:35-high would have snuck in there one of these year.

I don't think a mock meet that would be decided by a race or two is a 'hands-down' anything.

Re: Survey about a new pair of revolutionary goggles

what does 'do you swim seasonally?' mean? is that 'do you only swim competitively for 5 months of the year or less?'

well, he was quite sick last year at NCAAs. 143.5 is quick though...

Re: Betting on the Olympics

why wouldn't he take a couple years off and train for a couple events + relays? No reason he has to focus on 4 IM. 1 fly, 1 free, 2 IM in Rio is worth a lot. Plus, he'll find golfing and shark diving will get old after a while.

Re: Qualification Changes

this will hurt mid-level d1 programs considerably. if it costs a bunch of money to even send a team to ncaas, the stretched budgets will either force cutting the program or not sending the relay only swimmers.

not a good development.

Re: D3 off season training Stuff that Makes me MAD

the rules, as structured, actually inhibit pursuing academics and internships. allowing coaches to coach would afford flexible schedules that fit around academics and internships. most coaches would probably vouch that swimming isn't a cause for slipping academics. in truth, swimming often enhances ...

Re: D3 off season training Stuff that Makes me MAD

unlike other arenas, including d1, the punishment for getting caught in d3 far outweighs the benefits of cheating.

Re: D3 off season training Stuff that Makes me MAD

self monitoring seems to work today. not too many programs that are starting practice early, going to 30 hour weeks, etc. DIII is almost entirely self monitored.

Re: D3 off season training Stuff that Makes me MAD

Coaches who abuse the new rules would be outed, and, really, swimmers in it for the social and fitness aspect would self select elsewhere. D3 coaches also coach because they don't feel the pressure to win at all costs.

I don't appreciate artificial restrictions that bias against an engaged athlete.

why not during the summer internship period? I found that the most difficult to train around, as 8 - 5 internships don't usually align with a typical club swimming schedule.

Re: D3 off season training Stuff that Makes me MAD

Anyone who stays on campus for study or internships is hampered by this. Especially in D3 schools, which tends to be a more remote area, and club teams tend to cater to age group schedules that allow for 3:30 PM practices. It affects anyone who wants to swim and juggle academics. I stayed on campus ...
